Fish diseases can be prevented by ensuring an accurate setup, carrying out appropriate maintenance and quarrentining all new arrivals. Although this advice may help in decreasing chances of infection, there may come a time where you need to treat an inhabitant of your aquarium for disease. Try not to stock up on treatments just in case only buy treatments as and when needed.
Only infected fish should be treated and where possible in a separate hospital tank. Some treatments are extremely harmful to plants, invertabrates and certain species of fish, so always check with your supplier if treating in a hospital tank is not an option.
Below is a list of common fish diseases and the symptoms which may manifest. We have not used specific treatments as it is recommended to discuss diagnosis and treatment with your supplier to asscertain if appropriate to your individual aquarium. However please feel free to discuss specific treatments with one another wthin our forums. |
